Monitor tem o prazer de anunciar a abertura da nova temporada com a primeira exposição individual do artista português Diogo Pinto, apresentada em simultâneo nos espaços de Roma e Lisboa. A exposição, intitulada de Agenzia/Agência, inaugura a 20 de setembro em Roma e a 26 de setembro em Lisboa.
Concebida como um projeto em duas partes, a exposição revisita e reinterpreta símbolos, arquitetura e as estratégias representacionais da mais ambiciosa transformação urbana e cultural de Lisboa da década de 1990. Esta intervenção — originada num cruzamento entre política, espetáculo e planeamento urbano — prometia uma nova cidade para um novo milénio, inscrevendo-se no imaginário coletivo de uma geração. Ao enquadrar este episódio como um marco histórico e um repositório de narrativas não resolvidas, Agenzia/Agência examina como tais projetos são mediadores da relação entre o espaço público, identidade nacional e ficções do progresso.
Diogo Pinto interage com estes vestígios, não apenas como documentos de um evento passado, mas como agentes na construção de um significado, destacando os mecanismos de promoção, exibição e mediação através dos quais a cidade encenou a sua própria reinvenção. Ao longo dos dois capítulos da exposição, o artista estabelece um diálogo entre memória e projeção, explorando a distância entre promessa e falha.
Nos seus projetos, Diogo Pinto (n. Lisboa) engendra modos de apresentação e mediação das micro-narrativas que investiga através de uma minuciosa prática de pintura. Pensando as exposições como médium, os seus projetos têm-se focado em destacar histórias e ligações obscuras alusivas às subtilezas sociais, culturais e políticas da produção artística.

Monitor is pleased to announce its new season’s opening, with the first solo exhibition at the gallery by Portuguese artist Diogo Pinto, presented across both its Rome and Lisbon venues. The exhibition, titled Agenzia/Agência, will open on September 20th in Rome and September 26th in Lisbon.
Conceived as a two-part project, the exhibition revisits and reinterprets the symbols, architectures, and representational strategies surrounding one of Lisbon’s most ambitious urban and cultural transformations of the 1990s. That intervention – germinated at the intersection of politics, spectacle, and urban planning – promised a new city for a new millennium, embedding itself within the collective imagination of a generation. By framing this episode as both a historical marker and a repository of unresolved narratives, Agenzia/Agência examines how such projects mediate the relationship between public space, national identity, and the fictions of progress.
Pinto engages with these traces, not merely as documents of a past event, but as agents in the construction of meaning, foregrounding the mechanisms of promotion, display, and mediation through which the city staged its own reinvention. Across both chapters of the exhibition, the artist articulates a dialogue between memory and projection, probing the distance between promise and shortfall.
In his projects, Diogo Pinto (born 1993 in Lisbon, lives and works in Basel) engineers presentation and mediation modes for his research of micro-narratives, rendered through a precise painting practice. Interpreting exhibition-making as a medium, his projects highlight obscure histories regarding the social, cultural and political subtleties of artistic production.
