MONITOR and Matèria
Art Brussels 2026
Discovery Section
Booth 5A-32

-

MONITOR and Matèria are pleased to present a collaborative booth within the Discovery section of Art Brussels 2026, dedicated to the dialogue between two of their represented artists: Francisca Valador (Matèria) and Thomas Braida (MONITOR).

The idea for this joint presentation originates from a moment of serendipity. Both galleries, located a few doors apart in the Roman neighbourhood of San Lorenzo, inaugurated solo exhibitions by Valador and Braida on the same evening in the spring of 2025. This coincidental alignment revealed a surprising and fertile resonance between their practices - one that the galleries now wish to formalize and expand upon within the context of the fair.

For Art Brussels 2026, the artists will unveil a new series of paintings, complemented by selected sculptural interventions. Though distinct in their visual languages, the presentation emphasizes the experimental and process-based nature of both practices.

This collaboration between MONITOR and Matèria seeks to extend a local exchange into the international context, underscoring the vitality of Rome’s contemporary art scene through the lens of two of its most distinctive represented voices.

Monitor is thrilled to announce the representation Monitor is thrilled to announce the representation of Pedro Zhang, and the opening of his upcoming solo show, Phantom Tales, at Monitor Lisbon, opening on Thursday, April 16.

Pedro Zhang (b. 2001, Évora) is based in Lisbon. He holds a BFA and a MFA in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
As an artist, his work develops through an attention to unstable forms and shifting relationships between figures and space. He builds his paintings by layering images and atmospheres to create scenes that resist stable interpretation. His painting draws on memory, symbolic association, and intuitive painterly gestures. Rather than depicting fixed stories, his compositions suggest fragments—presences that feel suspended, as if caught between appearance and disappearance – functioning as concentrated visual states—images that invite contemplation and suggest a subtle sense of ritual or inner myth.
The artist has had solo exhibitions at MEL - Project Space, Porto (2025), Galeria Diferença, Lisbon (2025). His works were part of the group exhibitions at Mahara+Co, Miami (2025), Monitor, Lisbon and Rome (2024/25), Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes, Lisbon (2024), Museu das Artes de Sintra, Sintra (2024), Maison du Portugal, Paris (2023), Museu Soares dos Reis, Oporto (2023), , Módulo - Centro Difusor de Arte, Lisbon (2023).
